While the Ward still hasn’t seen the light of day in North America yet, the UK is getting it’s first look at legendary director John Carpenter’s newest film when it arrives on DVD and Blu Ray. However many dates are currently saying the release is May 16th, when Den of Geeks is announcing that Warner Brother’s UK has pushed it back to October. While this may have to do with the studio wanting to keep it under wrap until the North American release of the film, you still have the opportunity to pre order it via Amazon UK.
Edit: Amazon UK haschanged it’s release date to October 11.
John Carpenter’s The Ward, a psychological thriller about a young woman locked in a mysterious mental institution in the 1960s, marks iconic horror master John Carpenter’s first feature film in over seven years.
Kristen (Amber Heard), a beautiful but troubled young woman, finds herself bruised, cut, drugged, and held against her will in a remote ward of a psychiatric hospital. She is completely disoriented, with no idea why she was brought to this place and no memory of her life before being admitted. All she knows is that she isn’t safe.
The other patients in the ward–four equally disturbed young women–offer no answers, and Kristen quickly realizes things are not as they seem. The air is heavy with secrets, and at night, when the hospital is dark and foreboding, she hears strange and frightening sounds. It appears they are not alone.
One-by-one, the other girls begin to disappear and Kristen must find a way out of this hellish place before she, too, becomes a victim. As she struggles to escape, she will uncover a truth far more dangerous and horrifying than anyone could have imagined.
After premiering in Toronto this past summer and a UK release last month, John Carpenter’s return to feature filmmaking has finally secured U.S. distribution!
ARC entertainment, partnered with XLrator Media have acquired the film, which sees genre starlet Amber Heard (ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE, DRIVE ANGRY) confined to the titular section of a mental institution in the 1960′s, one that’s set upon by an evil spectre.
XLrator Media’s Barry Gordon said, “We are proud to be a part of John Carpenter’s long-awaited return to the big screen. John is one of the most renowned filmmakers in the world and THE WARD is a great addition to an already legendary career.”
“We’re thrilled to find a vibrant home with ARC Entertainment and XLrator Media, a partnership that is fast being recognized as a place where innovation in marketing and distribution is happening,” said producer Mike Marcus, of Echo Lake Entertainment. “Their excitement for the film, combined with their creative approach to bringing this film to audiences, makes them the perfect partner to release this film.”
No word yet on a date, or the size of release, but this is exciting nonetheless!
Just in time for Lyndsy’s birthday in a few days, the long awaited TIFF teased John Carptenter film The Ward has a teaser trailer out!
The first half of “The Ward” international trailer has been shared to tease those looking forward to the next directorial work of John Carpenter. The partial trailer follows Amber Heard’s Kristen who is brought to a remote ward of Chamberlain Psychiatric Hospital with no idea why she was there and no memory of her life. It ends right after Kristen is haunted by a mysterious figure in a bathroom.
The other patients in the ward, four equally troubled girls, offer no answers and Kristen quickly realizes things are not as they seem. One by one the girls disappear and Kristen must find a way out of this hellish place before the ghost comes for her too. As she struggles to escape, she will uncover a truth far more dangerous and horrifying than anyone could have imagined.
Coming from one of the masters in horror filmmaking, “The Ward” is an intense psychological thriller that stars Danielle Panabaker, Lyndsy Fonseca and Jared Harris along with lead actress Amber Heard. The movie is going to open in U.K. cinemas on January 21, but it has not had U.S. release date yet.
“A lot happens,” Fonseca promises. “It was a huge and fun episode to film, so I’m excited to see how it all came together.”
Once the dust (literally) settles in this week’s episode, there will be a significant death that “changes everything about the show,” Fonseca teases. “Everything changes.”
Looking to Alex’s future, Fonseca says a potential love interest is on the way — to be played by no less than her onetime Young and the Restless scene partner, Thad Luckenbill — and a life change that leaves the young spook in “complete shock.”
Outside of her Nikita assignments, Fonseca is said to be on the short list of actresses to possibly star in a movie adaptation of the Hunger Games book trilogy. Though she was sent the script in October, she says there is “nothing to report” yet regarding her possible audition for the lead role of post-apocalyptic teen Katniss Everdeen. In the meantime, Fonseca is busy pouring through the young adult-oriented sci-fi series, which she raves is “so good.”
“Good” also happens to be a label Fonseca is anxious to shed with regard to the type of characters she plays, citing a pigeonhole she fell into early in her career (with turns on such shows as Y&R and Desperate Housewives). To that end, she can be spied conspicuously consuming an ice cream cone in a “video portrait” helmed by famed photographer Tyler Shields.
“For so long, I was seen in one way — as Kick-Ass’ girlfriend, or the sweet girl next door — so I wanted to do something I had never done before,” she explains of the tease-filled video. “That was my form of rebellion.”
